SkyMate
A GPS live-tracking system for gliding competitions, co-created with Todd Sandercock.
SkyMate is a cockpit-mounted tracker that streams each glider's position to a website, so people on the ground can watch a race unfold live. In the cockpit it gives the pilot live heading, location and ranking, and for organisers it simplifies scoring. Version 3 runs for around 20 hours on a battery and works across all competition formats under current rules. It has been used at SkyRace GP for several years, and Gliding Australia has partnered on it with 60 trackers initially available for competition use. SkyMate is co-authored with Todd Sandercock, and the SkyRace GP team now develops the device.
